About

Date

Sally Tyrie works predominantly with printmaking, mixed media and photography,  often employing deconstruction and assemblage methods in her work.

Her way of working usually involves some form of initial research and investigation. For instance repeated visits to a location or historical research in a subject. It is important to Sally that visual and historical research underpin and inform the group of work. ‘The investigative journey is as much a part of the work as the end result’.

Whilst starting points to her work can vary, a recurring interest is in imagery that has a sense of the uncanny. Also, ways to convey a narrative around absence presence and transience.

Her current investigations have been driven by an interest in historical ruins and abandoned spaces. Also asking the question of ‘what it is about derelict spaces and ruins that we find so appealing’.

Her current visual exploration reveals a particular interest in imagery that feels like a trace of something. Perhaps incomplete, and ‘just out of sight’

Sally works from her studio at the Portsmouth Naval Historic Dockyard.
